List Love Book Club: The Golden Years

Each Week ElleinadspirA Place to Share and I will be working our way through the Listography 2011 Book with a rotating Link Part-tay! To find the list of the years topics, check out the Listography Link above. Today’s Topic: List how you would like to spend time when you’re a senior citizen

Yay! This is not just a great topic, it's also the subject of many random daydreams.

  1. Visiting my kick-ass son who is a Top Chef and has at least one even more kick-ass child
  2. Traveling everywhere
  3. Driving a mini-cooper. A bumble bee yellow one. All electric hopefully.
  4. Living in a loft apartment (I mean obviously, your knees go as you get older, no more stairs!)
  5. Patronizing the arts (in my daydreams I am not just retired, I am also wealthy)
  6. Dancing tango
  7. Cooking through my 30th-something cookbook project
  8. Enjoying the memories of having completed large chunks of stuff on my list and dreaming up new ones!
  9. Sleeping in everyday
  10. Doing things that make young people say "I hope when I'm your age..."

Am I the only one who fantasizes about retirement? I do my best to enjoy each moment and stage in life but living as chronic-overplanner-ahead is in my nature. I'm the only one left with the link so feel free to hitch yourself to this wagon.

PS-This is the last week of the LIst Love Book Club but (obviously) not that last list because I'm working on some New Years resolutions!

List Love Book Club: Wish Lists

Each Week ElleinadspirA Place to Share and I will be working our way through the Listography 2011 Book with a rotating Link Part-tay! To find the list of the years topics, check out the Listography Link above. Today’s Topic: List your wish list

I can't believe we are so close to the end of Listography! It seems like just yesterday Torrie, D and I were talking about starting this project! Today is such an easy list since my Mom just asked me the same question the other day! This is not the list I gave to her, in real life I like to be a little more practical, this is my literal "wish" list. ;)

Wow, I guess it seems my penchant for bright and ridiculous is not going away anytime soon! I guess I'm like Popeye, I am what I am. Here's wishing that each of you get something wish list worthy from someone you love and get the opportunity to give something wish list worthy to someone you love!

List Love Book Club: Taking in Strays

Each Week Elleinadspir, A Place to Share and I will be working our way through the Listography 2011 Book with a rotating Link Part-tay! To find the list of the years topics, check out the Listography Link above. Today’s Topic: List the animals you've adopted

Shortest list ever; the only dog I've ever "adopted" is Nutella. She has an excellent pedigree (the daughter of two strays) and is named after one of my favorite chefs (Nigella Lawson-Arnold calls her Nutella). We love her, she is very poorly behaved, but a great foot warmer at night.

Torrie's got the link. Hit her up!

List Love Book Club: Animals that Suck

Each Week ElleinadspirA Place to Share and I will be working our way through the Listography 2011 Book with a rotating Link Part-tay! To find the list of the years topics, check out the Listography Link above. Today’s Topic: List your least favorite animals

What the frak kind of prompt is this? I'm going to set loose my least favorite animals on this topic!

  1. Mosquitoes
  2. Those little bugs that get in your face unexpectedly when you are innocently walking down the street
  3. Lice
  4. Ticks
  5. Anything small that causes me trouble. Big animals are fine.

Hmmm... it seems that I have a lot of least favorite insects. Is there anybody out there that likes lice? I've got the link.

List Love Book Club: Pet Teachers

Each Week ElleinadspirA Place to Share and I will be working our way through the Listography 2011 Book with a rotating Link Part-tay! To find the list of the years topics, check out the Listography Link above. Today’s Topic: List all the teachers you can remember

  1. Mrs. Erickson-My 1st grade teacher  was in musicals in her spare time. She had us perform a musical called the Happy School of Fish which is an insane amount of extra work. I like to think she'd be pleased with the musical nerd I've become.
  2. Mrs. Manning-My high school Spanish teacher. She was so, so kind and so, so good at what she did. I didn't appreciate her skills as an educator until I got to my first upper-division Spanish class at UC Davis. I had already read the entire reading list in high school. Crazy.
  3. Sara Harris-My piano teacher. I took piano lessons from the age of 9-18 from the same teacher. Although I don't play at anywhere near a professional level I still can bang the keys well enough to be my own personal kareoke machine. Sara taught me to love, appreciate and understand music in a way I never would've had I not learned to play piano. She and her elderly parents were also weekly fixtures in my life throughout my childhood: I loved them and still do.

Who are the teachers you remember? I'm hoping they were influential in a positive way! Leave 'em in the comments or hop over to link up at Danielle's!

List Love Book Club: A happy home

Each Week ElleinadspirA Place to Share and I will be working our way through the Listography 2011 Book with a rotating Link Part-tay! To find the list of the years topics, check out the Listography Link above. Today’s Topic: List what you remember about your childhood home

I lived in the house above for the majority of my childhood. It was the perfect size. 1500 sq feet. Just big enough for a family a five and just small enough that we never felt cramped. I have many, many happy memories from this house. Here are a few:

  1. My Dad built us a swing set in the backyard. He BUILT it himself. Superfun.
  2. Once my Dad and youngest brother spent an hour planting annuals around a tree in the backyard. The next day the flowers were back in their containers. My Dad thought he was losing his mind until my five year old brother fessed up he had put them back in the containers because gardening was fun and he wanted to do it again.
  3. Waking up on Easter morning to find baskets on the breakfast bar.
  4. Looking at the twinkle of our Christmas tree which sat in the Bay window each year.
  5. Once my parents cranked up our Sound of Music record (yes, record) and we all jumped around the backyard pretending we were the Von Trapps (parental units included). There is an incredibly incriminating video of this event. Happy (if dorky) memories indeed.
I have incredible nostalgia about my childhood home which I assume has far more to do with my family than my house. How about you? I've got the link!

List Love Book Club: Trending Topics in my Head

Each Week ElleinadspirA Place to Share and I will be working our way through the Listography 2011 Book with a rotating Link Part-tay! To find the list of the years topics, check out the Listography Link above. Today’s Topic: List what issues are foremost on your mind

Oh my, where to start? On the mundane front I'm thinking about the time-change(so sleepy after 5 pm), seeding my lawn, car financing options, how cold it is suddenly and the best way to refinance our mortgage. Ocasionally I interrupt this boring stuff to think about cheese or tacos.

Mostly though I've been thinking about Elian's upcoming baptism. I've been thinking about what food to prep for our friends and family, cleaning the house and what information who needs at what time. Even more important though I've been thinking about what it means to baptize a child and what it means to be a parent. I've been (attempting) to reorganize my priorities to concentrate on the bigger picture and let go of my crazy ocd grip on the details. A clean and organized house might be important to me but it pales in comparison to cleaning house in my overcrowded heart.

So that's what's on my mind. I would like to know what everybody else is thinking about? Eggplant? Twilight? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? Do tell. Danielle's go the link or you can share in the comments.

Ready, set, go!

List Love Book Club: Horrifying

Each Week ElleinadspirA Place to Share and I will be working our way through the Listography 2011 Book with a rotating Link Part-tay! To find the list of the years topics, check out the Listography Link above. Today’s Topic: List your favorite horror villains

I don't have a list for this but rather a short story. As a child I was extremely afraid of scary movies. I think it all started when I had to be removed hysterically sobbing from... Snow White. After the Snow White debacle I managed a good half decade without watching any scary movies until a party I'll call "The Incident".  When I was about 10 years old I was shamed into watching Child's Play at slumber party. It was terrifying.

I'm still afraid of dolls. The end.

Torrie's got the link today. You can hop over there if you are brave!

List Love Book Club: Breaking up is Hard to Do

Each Week ElleinadspirA Place to Share and I will be working our way through the Listography 2011 Book with a rotating Link Part-tay! To find the list of the years topics, check out the Listography Link above. Today’s Topic: List couples you were sad to see break-up

Celebrity divorces bum me out hardcore so you can understand that I didn't handle the Aniston-Pitt seperation well. I'm even worse when it comes to imaginary TV couples! How could Carrie not have ended up with Aiden? The tragedy of it all. The not-at-all-real imaginary-TV tragedy.

At some point I started getting into the celebrity gossip websites. I started off (as we all do) reading PerezHilton and through a series of events ended up being a devoted Lainey Gossip fan. Armed with insider information I no longer feel too sad about the break-ups. Instead I'm fascinated by the PR that surrounds them. For example people love to announce their splits on Fridays before the slow-news weekend. Even better? Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey announced their's on Thanksgiving Day. Genius!

These days I may be more into understanding the macchinations behind celebrity divorce announcements and spin then I am into mourning their marital demises but I will tell you one thing: If Prince William and Princess Katherine end up divorcing I will not recover.

How about you? Are you less shallow than I? Which couple real or imaginary do you wish had hung in there? I've got the link today. If you want to blog about this topic, link to the post below. No blog? No problem. Leave your thoughts in the comments.
