Since everybody was so helpful and encouraging during my first little Lenten breakdown I think it only fair to share how things are going: not perfect, but much better. As many of you so wisely suggested we need time to grow together and get to know each other. Mother-son relationships are not built in two months but rather over a lifetime. So even though Elian is not so much with the intelligible talking yet we've been chatting about how we can both work together on not yelling as much. I apologized for setting such a bad example of temper control and told him that I'm going to do a better job teaching him how to manage frustration. It's our little mother-son project and I have to say it's going pretty well! (Note that I said well, not perfect.)
Elian is much calmer overall and I'm on the road to redemption as well. We have a long ways to go but I'm thankful that things are getting better. A lot of this is due to my awesome Arnold my Number One cheerleader who says "Go now and take a break" when things are getting too intense. It is a blessing to have a husband like mine. I know many of you are tackling challenges, Lenten or otherwise. How are yours going?
