On Wednesday I headed out to Baltimore for a work trip. I won’t go into details, but suffice it to say that it did NOT go well at the airport. Additionally I generally don’t get excited about a 1.5 day work trip that requires and 8 hr flight in each direction.
My conference in Baltimore however was FANTASTIC! The keynote speaker ended up being former football player Vince Papale. He became a professional football player at age 30 with NO previous experience. The movie Invincible was made about his life. He also happens to be a colorectal cancer survivor and he gave a very moving speech about the importance of believing in yourself and finding purpose in the things that happen to you. I really need to put Invincible on my Netflix list (bonus: He’s played by Mark Wahlberg). Next up on list of conference surprises was a made-to-order sushi bar for dinner. Nice! And finally… our hotel was also hosting a National Ballroom Dancing Competition and we got to watch the practice sessions for free! By the time I left this morning it was like a glitter IED had gone off in the hotel. There were feathers and garish colors and tiny little Russian girls everywhere. Fantastic! Who knew that a colorectal cancer conference could be so shiny?
